Causeway Coast

Along the diverse Causeway Coast you will find many of Northern Ireland’s most important sights. The 190 kilometre coastal road from Belfast to Londonderry (Derry) – or in the opposite direction – leads along mighty white limestone cliffs, isolated bays and romantic fishing villages with beautiful harbours. The route owes its name to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Giant’s Causeway, with its over 40,000 polygonal basalt columns. The region’s traditional ties with Scotland are evident. On clear days, “Alba’s” coast seems within reach.

The Causeway Coastal Route is congruent with the A2 and partly with the tradition-rich coastal road “Antrim Coastal Road”. A visit to the Islandmagee peninsula, the Glens of Antrim and the “Torr Head Scenic Route” is a worthwhile detour. The latter is a narrow side road that winds along the magnificent stretch of coast between Cushendun and Ballycastle.

Take a look at the most scenic sights along the Causeway Coastal route and discover the Giant’s Causeway, the famous rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede and many filming locations for the acclaimed series “Game of Thrones”.
