Dromiskin Round Tower

Dromiskin Monastery

Already in the late 6th century a first monastery was built in Dromiskin. The oldest preserved buildings are the hull of a round tower (9th century) and the head of a high cross (10th century). The special thing about this high cross is that it is not Bible motifs, but Celtic symbols and mythical creatures that are at the centre. A sculpture of a Viking ship erected next to the monastery reminds of the eventful past and the raids of the Northmen.
