Annagassan
If you visit the village of Annagassan, it is hard to imagine that Ireland’s largest city could be right here and not in Dublin. Background of this thesis is that near Annagassan there was a Longphort of the Vikings with the name Linn Duachaill, which was founded at the same time as the Viking settlement Dubh Linn – today Dublin. In their early days, both settlements competed for supremacy on the East Coast. Finally Dublin prevailed, Linn Duachaill was abandoned and rediscovered in 2010.
