Davitt‘s Quay Dungarvan
The promenade at the port of Dungarvan was once an important trading centre, especially for the Irish fishing industry. The trading boats set off from here into the remotest corners of the world and sailed to Shanghai ,Newfoundland and even South America. There was also a shipyard at the north end of Davitt’s Quay. In the 20th century, the port lost its importance as a large seaport and in the course of this development, the large warehouses also fell into disrepair.
Nowadays these old buildings have given way to apartments and shops, and a lively marina ensures that the Davitt’s Quay is still bustling today.
