Our hotel recommendation for Dublin

On the outskirts of Dublin lies the extraordinary Clontarf Castle in a quiet neighbourhood with excellent public transport. This accommodation combines modern facilities with the antique charm of an 11th century castle. Only 10 minutes from the city center, staying overnight in these old walls is a highlight in itself.

The best areas to stay in Dublin

Dublin offers plenty to see and a wide range of accommodation. Some of the most attractive areas of Dublin are Ballsbridge, The Liberties, Smithfield, St. Stephen’s Green and Temple Bar. They offer unique sights, pubs, galleries and much more as well as accommodation for every budget.

Stay in Ballsbridge

Ballsbridge is located south-east of the city center on the River Dodder. Many of Dublin’s attractions are within walking distance from here, while you can sleep peacefully in the quiet, green area. Many embassies are based in Ballsbridge, as well as the Aviva Stadium, which regularly hosts major football and rugby games. One of the main attractions in Ballsbridge itself is the riverside Herbert Park, which is great for long walks.
In addition, Dalkey and Killiney in south Dublin can be easily explored from here.

Hotel recommendations for Ballsbridge

For a more luxurious accommodation we recommend the Schoolhouse Hotel, with its brick walls and charming interiors, and the InterContinental Dublin, with its spacious rooms and pompous decor.
On a medium budget, we recommend the modern Clayton Hotel or Grand Canal Hotel.

Stay in The Liberties

Located west of the city center, The Liberties is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of the city. As a former working-class district with many distilleries and breweries, it is still the headquarters of the well-known Guinness brewery and the Guinness Storehouse, which is open to visitors. Many of Dublin’s major attractions are within easy reach, but there’s also plenty to see in The Liberties.
Unique pubs, whiskey distilleries, medieval churches like the Christ Church Cathedral or the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Victorian architecture and the old city walls offer a lot to discover. Dublin’s famous Vicar Street Concert Hall is also located in The Liberties. From local artists like The Dubliners to international stars like Bob Dylan, Vicar Street is bursting with musical history and still hosts regular concerts.
For pub crawls and history buffs, The Liberties is an ideal place to stay in Dublin.

Hotel recommendations for The Liberties

On the high-end side, we recommend an overnight stay in the beautifully modern-rustic Hyatt Centric in The Liberties.
The colourful, modern studios at Staycity Aparthotel offer wonderful accommodation for a mid-range budget.
For basic accommodation on a budget, we recommend staying at Garden Lane Backpackers.
If you are traveling as a family or small group, the Liberty Townhouses offer holiday homes in old brick walls with cozy furnishings.

Stay in Smithfield

Smithfield lies north of The Liberties on the opposite bank of the Liffey. Despite being close to many sights, it is a rather quiet area with many apartment buildings. Apart from the Jameson Distillery and the Horse Fair, Smithfield serves mainly as a base for exploring the surrounding parts of Dublin.
Take a trip to the huge Phoenix Park and a stop by for a visit to the Kilmainham Gaol Museum!

Hotel recommendations for Smithfield

On a mid-range budget, we recommend the old-fashioned but very stylish McGettigan’s Townhouse.
Those who like it more modern will find a very good alternative in the Maldron Hotel.

Stay in St Stephen’s Green

St. Stephen’s Green is an old Victorian park south of Dublinโ€™s city centre. With a small lake and many paths, this green oasis is perfect for long walks and a quiet day in the park. Nearby lies Merrion Square, another park with many sculptures and surrounded by Georgian houses. Between the two parks lay the National Museums of Ireland. In the immediate vicinity of St. Stephenโ€™s Green is the busy shopping area of Grafton Street.
Many other attractions of Dublin are located around St. Stephen’s Green and can conveniently be explored from here.

Hotel recommendations for St Stephen’s Green

Staying in St. Stephen’s Green isn’t cheap, but given the excellent location, itโ€™s no surprise and definitely worth it.
The Green offers large rooms with modern design and plenty of opportunities to explore surrounding areas on foot.
At Stauntons on the Green you will be greeted by modernly furnished rooms with simple design.
The 5-star hotel The Shelbourne, at the bar of which local celebrities can often be seen, is located directly on St. Stephen’s Green and is the most prestigious hotel in the city. If you want to splurge, you will get your money’s worth here and won’t miss a thing.

Stay in Temple Bar

Temple Bar is right in the heart of Dublin between the Trinity College campus and the River Liffey. The lively district, very popular with tourists, is characterized by a large number of pubs with live music, restaurants and the pedestrian area. Whether eating, drinking or strolling – there is always something to do here. A visit to Ha’Penny Bridge is a must when taking a walk along the Liffey. It is one of the major landmarks of the city, as is the Molly Malone statue, which is also worth visiting. We also recommend a visit to the National Wax, the National Whiskey Museum and the campus of the nearby Trinity College with its impressive library and the Book of Kells.
Many other sights are within walking distance. As a base for exploring and immersing yourself in the nightlife, Temple Bar is the ideal place for your accommodation in Dublin.
As a little bonus tip, we recommend the Gallagher Boxty House Restaurant, which offers delicious traditional Irish dishes.
