Reginald's Tower - Waterford

Reginald’s Tower

The well-known landmark of Waterford was built in the 13th century by the Anglo-Normans after they conquered Waterford. The tower first served as a fortress, later as a prison and mint and is now a Viking museum.

The name of the tower is somewhat confusing. For this is not an allusion to its builder, but is derived from the name of a former city ruler of the Vikings. This is, besides the fact that Reginald’s Tower is located within the so-called “Waterford Viking Trinagle” (the area of the original Viking settlement “Vadrarfjord”), the only connection that the tower originally had with the Vikings.
