Ladies Bathing Shelter - North Bull Wall

North Bull Wall

At the beginning of the 19th century, the North Bull Wall was built in the northern Dublin Bay according to plans by Captain William Bligh, who gained fame as a result of the mutiny on the Bounty. Just like the formerly built southern wall in Dublin Bay, it served to control a sandbank that threatened to silt Dublin Bay. An immense sand dune soon nestled against the wall, and within a few decades a new island, Bull Island, emerged here, which is now a popular recreational area.
