Nendrum Monastic Site

Nendrum Monastic Site

In the 5th century, a monastery was founded on a flat hill on the island of Mahee Island in Strangford Lough, which flourished between the 7th and 10th centuries. The preserved ruins of a church, the stump of a round tower, a tidal mill, the outer walls of individual plots and a sundial show the importance and considerable size of the complex.
