James's Fort - Kinsale

James‘s Fort Kinsale

James’s Fort was built at the beginning of the 17th century after the Battle of Kinsale on a headland in the Bandon estuary. In its short history, the military fortification has repeatedly become the battleground of rival powers. James’s Fort was given the nickname “The old Fort” when another fortress was built on the opposite bank with Charles Fort.

Nowadays the fort is visited by both tourists and locals who enjoy the scenic location. The fortress is surrounded by tunneled earth walls which are freely accessible.
