Inch Abbey

Inch Abbey

The ruin of Inch Abbey is located outside Downpatrick in a very peaceful and quiet area. The former Cistercian monastery was founded in 1180 by John de Courcy.ย It was also De Courcy who had the life of St. Patrick recorded in order to win over the local population, which he had previously subjugated. He also claimed to have found the tomb of the saint at Downpatrick.
