Great South Wall

Great South Wall

An unusual view of Dublin Harbour and Dublin Bay is offered by a stroll along the Great South Wall, which stretches far into the bay from Ringsend to Poolbeg Lighthouse. The construction of the dam became necessary at the end of the 18th century to control a sandbank that threatened to block the entrance to Dublin Bay.
At the harbour wall there is also an old seaside resort – the Half Moon Swimming & Water Polo Club.
