Roches Point

Rinn an Róistigh
County Cork

The lighthouse at Roches Point, idyllically situated on a headland, was opened in 1835. Previously there had been a lighthouse here since 1817, but it soon had to be replaced by a higher one to make the entrance to Cork Harbour safer. Directly at the lighthouse area a row of colorful houses nestles and on the hill behind it is the ruin of a larger building, of which a tower is still well preserved.
