Dungarvan Castle

Dungarvan Castle was built in 1185 by the Anglo-Normans at a strategic location at the entrance to Dungarvan Harbour. The mighty fortress later served for British barracks. In 1922 it was taken by the IRA and burned to the ground. After restoration, the castle nowadays opens its doors to visitors from May to September.
