The 18th century mansion Castle Ward is located on the banks of Strangford Lough. A large garden and park blend harmoniously into the landscape. Various rooms of the manor house as well as in the buildings around the inner courtyard – e.g. the laundry or saddlery – provide an impressive insight into life at that time. The builders of the estate, Lord Bangor and his wife, have also found a good compromise to express their architectural preferences. The façade facing the estuary was designed in neo-Gothic style after the landlady’s gusto, while the opposite façade looks strictly classical – to the husband’s delight.
The property has been of great interest to fans of the fantasy series “Game of Thrones” for some time now. Around the residential tower “Old Castle Ward” was the set of “Winterfell”.
