Carrick-a-Rede

Carraig an RáidCounty Antrim

The famous rope bridge spans the abyss between the mainland and the small island of Carrick-a-Rede. When crossing you have to cover a distance of about 18 meters at a height of about 20 meters to get to the island – and of course back again. Thrills are guaranteed.

What today presents itself as a tourist attraction was once a passage of salmon fishermen who had laid their nets around the island. The original rope bridge only consisted of two ropes with individual running boards and another rope as a handrail. Today’s rope bridge, on the other hand, looks extremely solid and the view down into the floods is still spectacular.
