The bay impresses with high rock faces and imposing rock formations that tower up on the western and eastern edge of the bay. The narrow path leading down to the bay is easy to miss. At the end of the path, it looks as if you are entering the bay through a portal in the form of a steep cliffs to the right and a large free-standing rock to the left. Geologists also enjoy Ballydowane Bay. The rock layers of the eastern cliffs show a compressed cross-section of 80 million earth formations.
